Hi all,

My auto policy has just come up for renewal and I'm cranky it went UP again....I haven't had any claims, and ....ahem.....no tickets ! ;)

I currently have Progressive, but a friend told me about Wawanesa

An online quote I just received from them knocked my socks off and it seems too good to be true. All coverage/deductibles that I submitted mirrored that of my Progressive policy. Actually, Wawanesa doesn't have the $1000 deductible that I currently have with Progressive, they only have a $500 deductible for comprehensive and collision. So, it's actually even better for me if I wreck.

Progressive: $822 for 6 months

Wawanesa: $506 for 6 months

Wow ! That's a savings of $52 bucks a month....or $632 a year ! What's the catch ?

Anyone ever have dealings with them, and/or claims ? How did your experience go ?

I can't answer those questions, but if you're comparing prices then I recommend you look into Mercury. They were the cheapest around 10 years ago when I first moved to Socal, and they were still the cheapest a year ago when I shopped around again. I got quotes from Progressive and Wawanesa, in addition to several others. Next closest policy was $100 more per 6 months. I went through AIS for my original policy, and I believe they at least match any direct quotes. They work with multiple providers and just plug your info into the computer, which spits out the cheapest option. I have no idea how good Mercury is on customer service, as I've never had to file a claim either. (And no tickets too!)

I have had Wawenesa for 10 years. Fortunately, I've never had to deal with a claim, so I can't help you there.

But they are half the price of other quotes that I've gotten (I only pay $700/year for my 4 yo SUV w/300k liability), even much cheaper than Mercury (which I switched from)

Troop, if it helps, we have everything insured with MetLife, we've had one auto claim and they were outstanding...

For $840 for 6 months we have:

1. 2006 Beetle Convertible

2. 2008 Scion xB

Both with comp/collision/un-insured motorist, winshield/towing/rental and anything else they offered with $500 ded

Also included in the $840...

Renters insurance with more than enough coverage for us including liability/Medical etc etc...

And that even includes the scheduled coverage at $147 pa I have for $9500 on my Bicycle which covers accident, theft in fact everything except normal wear and tear...

Unless a Bicycle is scheduled it only covers $1500 for theft/fire/damage at your residence...

I've never seen a Bike burst into flames, but you never know .

I like the little Geico Lizard, problem is, I can't understand a word he says...

I have Ameriprise, through Costco, and have been very happy with them. $250 deductible, 100k/300k, etc. and it is $1050/yr. for a 2001 Ford pickup and 2008 Subaru sedan.

CM, that is a good deal...and for TWO cars, wow. Too late though, I just sent my payment in to Wawa. Done deal. Thanks all.

Troop,

You're welcome. I was amazed at how cheap Ameriprise was when I first switched from 21st Century Insurance. Plus, they had higher limits and lower deductibles. Problem is, they don't insure motorcycles, so I have to have two policies. Their auto is so affordable that it actually makes sense to go that route.

If you aren't happy with WaWa, check out Ameriprise next year.

I have Wawanesa Insurance... for about 11 years now.

One of the main reasons I went with them, was I was in a car accident (not my fault! :) ) and the company that the person that hit me had for insurance was Wawanesa. I was so impressed at how they handled the claim, no push back, no problems with which repair shop I chose and no problems with the rental car... that I decided to get a quote from them. It came in so much cheaper than what I was currently paying, and with already seeing their customer service in person... that I felt very comfortable in making the switch!

Good luck! Hopefully you won't need to use them! ;-)

No problem Troop!

Hopefully you will be happy with their service, and as mentioned before... not need to use it!

Hope your weekend was fun!!!

If the recommendation from bimmerforums means anything, then Wawa is highly recommended. I have Mercury, and have had few claims handled very well, but from what I have heard, Wawa is the way to go. So, Troop the nutters over at bimmerforums love Wawa, and I am thinking about switching to them, even if the are slightly higher than Mercury, and I think it will be the right choice too.

Thanks GITOC for the real life experience of Wawa, it helps to know a trusted source, like your self, has had a good experience.

Our auto insurance was up for renewal, so like a good Trooper, I shopped around. %-P

Mercury was within dollars of AAA.

Wawanesa was 23% cheaper than my current AAA or a savings of $400.

Everything was similar except AAA insured $500k bodily injury and Wawanesa only insured up to $300k.

Thanks for the post, Troop, and for everyone's comments and suggestions.

I had not heard of Wawanesa until I read this thread.

I still can't believe I'm saving $632 a year....and my quote mirrored my policy coverage from Progressive. I mean, they blow away the competition imo. Glad it worked out for you !
