California Gogi Korean Grill, the Chipotle-style Korean concept that opened in 2013 at University Center across from UCI, is now expanding to the parts of Irvine with fewer college students.

The restaurant will go in between Panda Express and Yogurtland at the Irvine Marketplace. It will follow G Burger and recently, Class 302 Tea Cafe, as the new kids on the block among the old guard of Thai Spice and Natraj Tandoori.

TIC is definitely stepping up its game in bringing in new restaurant/eateries for the Marketplace.  I tend to avoid restaurant near the UCI area but now that there is going to be one in the Marketplace, definitely worth a try.

Went to the one by UCI, they changed their menu setup.

Instead of a rice plate... it's now something they call Stacked which includes glass noodles and the sides on a separate cover tray.

Still pretty good... and they now sell KFC (Korean Fried Chicken).

So all this for about $12 out the door.  Plenty to feed my family and we get some veggies too.  Yes its been dumbed down so don't judge on authenticy.  The bulgogi was my favorite, good texture not overcooked to death like most Korean restaurants.  And surprisingly the jap chae was al dente and one of the better ones I had in awhile. As for the banchan, the potato salad provides a nice creamy contrast to the grilled/acidic items, skip the mac salad, no taste at all.  Adding this place to our weekly take out dinner rotation.  And the best part?  no stinky radish/kim chi/garlic smell in the house afterwards.
