Bye bye my meatballs

I'm a bit down this week.  :'(

There are 3 things I love at Ikea - the 100-pack straws, the hazelnut chocolate and the irresistible Swedish meatballs with gravy and cranberry sauce.  :-*

The whole family panics when we are out of the Ikea straws, which I usually buy 5 packs at a time. We discovered the Ikea straws a few years ago. it's of a noticeably slender, half colored and half translucent.  It makes you feel that you are sipping a lots less while indulging, almost a slimming mirror effect.

Hazelnut chocolate is my own favorite - I began chewing roasted hazelnuts as soon as I had first row of teeth. Anything with hazelnut tops my list immediately. Rainbow parakeets share the same passion but that's another story.

The meatball lunch or dinner is always the highlight of our Ikea trip. I often have the urge to make up an excuse to go to Ikea just for the taste of it. Unlike the egg-sized Costco variety, the Ikea version is small, neat and of the just right bite size.

It dawned on me yesterday when I opened my freezer and found only half of bag of Ikea meatballs (which in itself is an emergency), just how out of proportion this whole horsemeat BS has been blown. I don't understand the concern about horsemeat. Is it because horses are human's second best friend, which I respect but have no desire of ever acquiring one? I think the horses are on the same expendable level as cows and sheep. Or is it because some scripture forbids the consumption of horsemeat? If it were for safety alone then I can attest that it is perfectly safe and perhaps that's what makes the Ikea meatballs so enticing.

When their top execs run their quarterly numbers I hope they realize the correlation between withdrawal of meatballs and those now overstocked straws and hazelnut chocolates. Meanwhile, I need to stash my precious half-bag somewhere at the very bottom of the freezer. Better still, I think I'll disguise it in a costco meatball bag.

Cows and sheep are okay because they are clean, kosher animals (identified as above).

Split hoof & chew cud. Horse is neither. Leviticus 11.

I looked it up and am not clear as mud. Does it mean the one with none-split hoof is unclean? How could anyone say that about the ponies?

I read several more versions of it (Lev 11) - it meant dogs, right?
