Finally made it to this place, had it bookmarked for awhile, unfortunately it doesn't warrant a return trip, not bad but not worth the drive nor the wait.

Their signature bacon and eggs.  Pork belly is heavily seasoned and fried.  Some complain it's too hard, but it is bacon after all, so don't expect melt in your mouth pork belly.  The eggs are battered and cooked perfectly.  Kimchee is weak but a nice acid balance to the heavy tastes.  Also comes with a side of bland fried rice. Not sure what the rice is for, maybe to fill you up due to the small portions.

Octopus, Chinese sausage, fava beans

Forgot the name of the dish.  Some sort of stew.  It was ok, heavy fava flavor.  The octopus is tenderized, which I don't like.  I prefer tough and rubbery for my eight legged friends.

They don't serve tap water, said it uses more water to clean them so the only water is bottled.  Seems a good way to make more money, if you complain you'll look stupid with the whole drought thing going on.  They say they recycle the bottles, to make you feel better for paying for it.  Runs close to $35/person with drinks/tax/tip.  Really steep for what you get, and that brings up my biggest peeve with this place:

Attitude.  The guy seating people has a serious issue with not being happy.  When you first arrive, the sign up for the wait list is located behind the bulletin board where the menu is, not the most noticeable location.  The pencil with a string attached to write your name down is hanging straight down and easy to miss as well.  So first timers will probably stand there not knowing you have to put your own name down and old timers will just walk up and cut in front of everyone because they know the 'secret' sign up list.  One couple asked the host how long the wait is and got a curt "I don't know, whenever that list is done". The couple walked away.  Nice attitude, and I'm paying you $70 for breakfast that while good, tasted bad because of the food nazism here.

Your review (heavy+not so friendly) is pretty spot on. I go once a year or so hoping it gets better but it hasn't.  Brought the in laws once and that was a major mistake. The owner has a touching back story.

I've been waiting for a post about this. I thought it was just a matter of time before all restaurants are doing bottled water. In the town of Avalon, on Catalina Island (which is actually L.A. County for those who don't know) they have been doing this a while now. They are facing extreme drought conditions. If you think ours is bad, theirs is even worse. Being an island, they have no imported water, unlike us. They really solely on well water and a desalination plant, which only meets 10% of their needs. Bottled water is offered for 50 cents at every restaurant.  Some restaurants have also switched to disposable plates to save water on dish-washing. As our drought drags on, I would expect to see restaurants on the mainland go a similar route. I do not eat out much so I'll be interested to see what you guys say about dining establishments in the future. I did go to Round Table for lunch yesterday. They have a sign up saying the pitchers of water are now available only upon request.

What about ice to pour my bottled water over?  Do I have to pay for that as well?

#droughtscam

Haha, I know. I was thinking about that when we were in Catalina. They will still serve your soda over ice and it's included in the price (not sure if the price of drinks went up). I suppose if someone is really cheap and they want a glass of water, they can gather up a few cups of ice & wait for the cubes to melt.  ;) I don't remember if the water bottles are served cold or not but I think they are. I prefer room temp water so I wouldn't notice if it wasn't cold.

I think Irvine could use another 5-6 brunch places. I'm convinced that Break of Dawn only does good business because there aren't a whole lot of obvious places to get together for brunch with 4-6 people. (American food, not dim sum)

Unfortunately, their quality has declined since the chef left the cooking to his workers.
