Here's a great way to get relief/volunteer work for your kid's college application.  It's still doing a good deed even though you are on a luxury cruise.

"The Cuba-bound cruises, which will start at $2,990 a person for a seven-day trip, will be part of Carnival?s new social impact initiative. The brand, called Fathom, will take passengers to countries were they perform volunteer work like teaching English, or contributing to water purification projects."

Starting at $3k for a 7 day cruise!

I think the biggest impact will be on Carnival's profits.  Just send your kid on a Caribbean cruise for $600 for 7 days and let them do charity work with groups in Jamaica and Haiti.

Send your kids on a cruise to do volunteer?  We're all not that rich... 😎
Local charity, shelter, church, etc will do.

Since subtlety is not one of the qualities that colleges are looking for, a mere 3k for an air of condescension sounds like a bargain. But teaching English? You have no roof over your head and no clean water to rinse yourself with, but knowing a few words of English would change your life for sure.
