Best kalbi in town

This is for the ones you buy at the market and cook it on the grill at home.  I nominate Zion market for combo of price and quality.  At $5 a pound, the bone-in short rib at Zion is tender and juicy, marinade is not bad as well.  Hans market comes in at a close second, their marinade is the best in Irvine, even better then garbage grove's and rivaling ktown in LA, but at $9 a pound, a bit hefty in price.  Meat is also of better quality, falling off the bone tender while cooking on the grill.  Hmart finishes a distant third with $6 a pound and weak marinade.  Meat is not as good quality as well.

Anyone tried the new market in Woodbridge?

Update:

Hmart is now $10/lb and USDA choice, pretty good, better than Zion for the time being

Zion has Angus (which could be Choice or Prime since it doesn't specify) Kalbi for $6.99/lb.  This is an awesome deal!

Something I've been meaning to ask around about...  Any recommendations for daikon sliced pickled radish?

Huh, just had the kalbi at Shik Do Rak on Jeffrey/Walnut and was pretty impressed with it.  It's the $33 per order one, USDA Prime or so they say, not the crap they serve with the AYCE option.  When they brought our order we thought they gave us 3 orders instead of 2 as there were 6 rolls of meat (most Korean bbbqs give 2 rolls per order).  Well to our surprise that was indeed 2 orders, and hopefully not a kitchen error.

Meat was decent, fatty of course and very tender.  I found the marinade to be too sweet but wife and kid loved it.  The grill wasn't the best for grilling marinaded meats as the sauce didn't have anywhere to go.  Kinda like boiling beef in sauce almost.  Had to request a grill change 2 times due to all the baked on crud.  Also comes with the stone pot egg which was decent.  Service was lacking, we did all the cooking which I was ok with since I can cook it the way I like.  Tons of leftovers and since we didn't do AYCE, we packed all the rice/ban chan/egg along with all the leftover kalbi.  Enough for lunch for my wife and kid the next day and again lunch for myself and wife the following day!  I believe this is about the same price as buying it from Hmart/Zion and cooking it yourself if you factor in the extra side dishes and time saved from prepping the grill/dishes/clean up at home.

This will be our go to gluttony night in Irvine if we're to lazy to go to KTown or GG

Wow, I've been thinking about going with the a la carte route here.  The AYCE is good, but I really can't eat that much these days and I can't help but force myself to over eat in an AYCE environment.  I'll have to try an order of Prime Galbi next time + prime brisket next time.  I'm really hoping that the price is equivalent to buying the raw meat at Zion!

Zion had a sale on marinated bone-in marinated ribs over the holidays and we stocked up.  Just BBQ'd the final batch last night (below is my plate of yummy goodness).

Sad to have finished them all off, but time to hit the gym!
