Auto Rental Recommendations...

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I'm heading out to Vegas next week, decided I'd rather drive than fly. But don't want to put the mileage on my car. Does anyone have a recommendation for a car rentals? I'm looking for a midzize or even sport and/or luxury(If reasonable) car to have for the week. Thanks!

Try Alamo...they have reasonable prices and I believe they give you unlimited miles.

Sign up for email spam from the car rental companies, they often have last minute special codes. This is good even if you don't want to rent as you can also forward to family flying into town that wants to rent a car.

Also, don't just walk up to the counter, check the website specials first (ex. at Alamo.com, click on the "Hot Deals" tab at the top of the page for the discount codes).

Also, if you are a Costco member, go to the Costco.com travel section and see what the codes are for various car rental companies, that is often the cheapest for me.

Also, your employer may have a corporate ID which you might be able to use to leisure travel as well as work that you can use with their preferred rental company, sometimes that is the cheapest way to go, esp in high tourist season.

I've had to travel a lot for work, so here are my recommendations.

1. Costco Rental: you get a nice discount from sale/retail rates

2. Travelzoo: you might get some last minute deals on there, and they are usually pretty good

3. My personal favorite: Hertz Club Gold. If you are short on time, these guys are your best choices. You walk in, look up at the electronic board, find your name, get in your car, out the parking lot. :)

Good luck!

Priceline.com is always worth a shot. They have an extremely perishable product. If a car isn't rented on a given day, there is no way they can ever sell that car for that day after the fact. I'd wait until a day or two before you go and bid no more than half the market rate for the car you want.

Watch out for Priceline though....you have to pick up and return the car at the EXACT time and date you specified, otherwise they charge you for an extra day. Happened to me....and I was trying to return the car TWO DAYS EARLY. I wasn't asking for a discount, or even the two days credited back. Yet, since I returned it "off the schedule" they hit me with another entire day fee. I was flaggergasted and will never use Priceline for anything ever again. I Googled the situation when I got home, and it seems it happens quite frequently.

For some reason I find that Cars and Las Vegas dont mix.

It might have to do with the fact that I party like a rock star

when in Vegas. And driving for hours in the middle of nowhere

and god forbid sitting for 8 hours on the 15 freeway coming home sucks.

Waiting for Valets. Self parking miles from your room. Endangering my fine

automobiles. NEVER.

My Number One rule with Vegas is. NEVER DRIVE.

SNA to LAS is about $ 65.00 each way coach.

Cabs are cheap and quick in Vegas.

FLY !

I see your point but I don't drink and I'm heading over there for business. I remember you were an advocate of fly don't drive to Vegas on another thread.

The traffic won't be too bad, I think because I'll driving out there when everyone's leaving and leaving when everyone is coming in.
