Anyone looking to do some work/upgrades on their property? I may have the right man for you

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Since my response to one of the member's request for a good painter, I have gotten several PMs asking about my dad's contact information. Quick background on my dad...used to work in construction for 20+ years when we came out to Southern California from Poland. Since that time, he has become a jack of many trades especially when it came to home improvement projects. He fully upgraded my HB townhouse and my Irvine condo (sold in Oct) during which time I purchased him most all of the equipment/parts he needed. He has also done a handful of other jobs for various other people over the past 4-5 years (I can provide those references). His specialties are painting, flooring (tiles and wood flooring), baseboards, crown moldings, fixtures/faucets, doors, toilet installs, and window coverings.

He does not have a business per se, as he was doing those jobs freelance on the side (he has been working as a poker dealer for the past 4 years). I'm not being baised when I say that he is a perfectionist and the quality of his work is second to none. Because he doesn't have a business he has no overhead to deal with meaning that his quotes will be very competitive (customers pay for the parts/materials and he will just charge for his labor). I would generate invoices for anyone that would need them for their records (might even start up an LLC for him if he gets enough work). Anyhow, send me a PM if you want his contact info so you guys can set up an appt to get a quote. I can also send you pictures of my Irvine condo to show you some examples of his work if an e-mail address is provided.

Get out, you are also Polish? Do you speak it? My dad's mom still cooks up a storm even at her age of 82. We used to go to mass over there all the time...off Rose and Imperial.

[quote author="freedomCM" date=1235795277]what about liability insurance?

or permits?</blockquote>
My dad doesn't do huge projects or major renovations (and doesnt work on electrical or major plumbing projects) such as busting out walls so he's never carried liability insurance. Permits aren't required for painting, adding crown moldings, or putting down wood floor. I think you meant to ask if he has a license? The answer to that is NO. That being said, I'll look into picking him up some liability insurance if he starts getting busy.

In writing... NOICE!

I've been thinking about taking advantage of Mesa Consolidated's offer of the $100 rebate for installing low flow toilets. Can your dad help me figure out which ones to get? The big project we're looking to get some quotes on is hardscaping the edges of the lawn and a small patio area in the back.

I'm half Polish, but learned recently that it might be mixed with Czech. It was my great grandparents that came over so never learned a word of the language. But, my dad did teach me to polka when I was a kid.

Sure, my dad probably has replaced 20+ toilets. I think he'd be more than happy to venture off to Home Depot with you and/or your husband to pick the right crapper and install it. I think he likes the Koehler (sp?) brand since thats the brand he installed in my townhouse and condo. He's not a huge landscape guy, but he has done some brick/stone work in front and backyards. You can show him and tell him what you are looking to get done and he'll tell you if he would be able to do it (he won't work on anything that he's not good at doing - he refused to do my granite countertops and my ceiling fans).

I don't speak it unfortunately. My Dad speaks Polish, my Mom speaks a little and understands most. And my grandmother only speaks polish as she deals the cards! Quite a card shark, my grandmother is...

You should have your dad teach you. Even though I speak it fluently, I dont know how to read or write it since I came to the US when I was 5. Funny thing is that my cousins tell me that I sound like a foreigner when I speak Polish (guess I have an american accent when I speak it and speak slower), go figure.
