anyone commute to pomona or the ie for work?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
well, im in chino hills right now, and would like a change of scenery, just to be around new stuff, plus i dont like hot weather.

my gf lives in monrovia right now, and she would like to move to chino hills, or chino.

we both think diamond bar would be good, but i dont see any new developments there.

i like brea, but same thing as diamond bar.

we went to riverbend, but i read a bad area is very close.

id like to live somewhere with a cool climate, and wherell itll be something different.

my girlfriend wants to be close to work.

we DID look at celamonte in chino hills, the 2bdrm was nice, but its only two. the 3bdrm was just ok.

we also looked at the preserve and college park, nice homes, but ehhh area.

can you recommend any other areas?

ps- she only likes new homes.

were planning on purchasing in summer/fall 09.

didnt even plan on looking that far away, but we like camden. but were still looking at everything just to see all our options.

Hey, CJ.

I just got back from Chino myself after a 5-year stay. I've been to all the areas you are talking about. I'm with you on The Preserve. Nice homes but eh location. And oh, so many flies. I've noticed those little roads like Kimball and such get really flooded too when it rains making it hard to get in and out. Lots of foreclosures there now. If I had to pick an area with new(er) homes I'd go Chino Hills - Fairfield Ranch. But the prison is in your backyard (same with College Park in Chino.) Btw, if you were in Diamond Bar which is L.A. County your tax rate will be higher than San Bernardino County (Chino Hills), I believe. Have you looked in Yorba Linda? Nice area. Not too far from where you are now. It's harder to find newer homes there that are on the east side closer to where you are but maybe it's worth a look. Not too far from the 71. Well let us know what happens.

thanks for your advice. yeah, we still have a long time to look. i thought the gf would be more excited to look, and i originally only wanted to look at 1 place per week, but i think its so fun looking at new homes, and so weve gone to around 10 places in the last 3 weeks. funny how that works.

yes, we actually did check out yorba linda, in vista del verde. it was really nice, we actually went to the wrong townhomes. we went to the mansions that were split into 3, and cost like 800-900k each.

we found the cheaper ones, but those were i think either 500 or 600k i dont remember.

i would love to live in brea, but the newest development, which hasnt even started, wont be open until 2010 or later.

so i mean, diamond bar, brea, i keep going further south, and we didnt even consider tustin. AT. ALL. but we liked it.

we still have a lot of places to visit. the home buyers guide maps are really handy.

The real question is when does your commute start? Early morning or early afternoon it is ok. Anything between 6-10 and 3-8 is going to suck. Sorry.

Good luck though, I have had big commutes before.

I think you're thinking backwards Bis. Although 57 @ 91 going any direction kind of sucks. However, if they're thinking 91 east bound... it gridlocks before the 241...

As much as when will the commutes start, is where ... and Pomona as an end point is very different than Corona.

More importantly, what kind of commutes have you had? If you've been living the dream of a 15 minute local commute, they're all going to suck. If you've been doing the Irvine to El Segundo death march, everything looks like a breeze.

Try Google Maps. Do live traffic and then override to do traffic at time and day. It'll show you the average traffic speed for the freeway segments by day of week by time (15 minute increments)

yup, we both work in pomona so i guess we would carpool and leave a lil bit before 7, start back at 4.

dunno if we would use fastrak or not.

for me, the endpoint in pomona would be on towne ave between the 60 and the 10.

for every job ive had, the commute has been 10-15 minutes, so ive been fortunate.

thanks for the google traffic idea, didnt know about that.

I drove the 5 to the 57 up to Pomona. During the mid day the traffic was going west, I was going east. And late at night it was vice versa. During the day time I was going WITH traffic and it sucked.... If i was lucky, I would ride a nice little bubble to work with little traffic.

I can say SigAlert is your best friend as well as having GPS to navigate your way out of trouble.

good luck

[quote author="no_vaseline" date=1222642203]From OC to Pomona? It's a snap.

The only real question is why.............the IE has some really nice areas.</blockquote>

Claremont and Upland (Old Euclid Ave) are both exceptional neighborhoods. Mission Inn by Riverside is another gem.

Interestingly enough, that was exactly what I had in mind. The commute to Pomona is doable, the locale is lovely, the resturants and shopping are good.........to bad the rest of the IE is tilt up strip mall hell.

CJ,

Timing did not work in your favor. Brea Lofts would have been ideal for your location, need and budget. The lofts were auctioned off several months ago for 45% off. Is your GF Asian and has a preference for a new home?

I am curious -- do Asians overwhelmingly prefer a new home?? I had never given much thought to some cultures preferring a new home more than others might. Does owning a pre-owned home affect the feng shui? Thanks in advance.

I have studied the psychology of consumers. The overwhelming desire for buying a new home is popular among the Asian population. This will be the only leverage for The Irvine Company to sell homes by 2010. Homes have to be tailored fit to the Asian lifestyle.

Although Caucasians will also be looking for a new home too but Caucasians will consider a charming resale. Few Asians would settle for a resale.

Most Asians on the contrary will insist on a new home for 3 reasons.

1) In Asian culture owning a brand new home is a sign of financial success. Asians would never buy a historic home because aesthetic is at the bottom of their list. San Marino is the only exception. Asians bought newer homes in there for status. Many bought Mcmansions built on previous bungalow lots.

2) Used homes have bad feng shui otherwise people would not have to sell it. Divorce, financial stress, death, family problems, job relocation, crime in the neighborhood, bad schools and etc.

3) Maintenance is a big issue with Asians because they know nothing about home repair. In Asia homes have no exterior maintenance and association handyman took care of all repairs and even simplest tasks like replacing a light bulb and oiling a door hinge. Most will never develop the thrill in going to Home depot because shoppers there don't wear Pradas.

Just one? Too easy.

Money Magazine called Clairemont #5 on the best 100 places to live in 2007. I'd have to agree. It's a groovy little city full of the Claremont colleges, neat resturants, chic shops, mature landscaping throughout the city.

I drove the 5 to 57 many days at many different times my first 2 years of college and it was never too bad unless there was an accident. Now if there was an accident you were screwed since the 57 is really the only way south.

However, on the way home I would recommend the 57, 91E, to 55 south, to 5 south route. This was during the 22 freeway construction so maybe it is better now. But the 5 between the 55 and 22/57 Interchange backed up and also the 57 backed up when it hit the 22. This might be better now since they changed that 57/22 interchange.

There were days I made it from Irvine to Pomona in 40 minutes or less but most days it was 45-50 minutes. I usually had 1 or 2 days a quarter where it took over 90 minutes due to an accident. Once you clear Cal State Fullerton, you are usually home free going North. Going South, with no accidents you do not have to worry about much until the 91. The 91 West interchange backs up bad onto the 57.
