So Amazon has now entered Angie's List territory with Amazon Home Services:
http://www.amazon.com/services

It's interesting as they can show you prices up-front from approved companies in your area. I looked up ceiling fan installation and it looks like it runs about $270 from a company called HomePros.

They also do automotive services and even lessons that cover music, yoga and education (Common Core Math tutor anyone?).

This might not be so bad.  Even though Amazon customer service calls seem to go to the Philippines (judging by my primo accent detector), they are always very helpful and willing to refund your $ or make it right.

For a home improvement project, it's almost worth paying a bit more to get a service from Amazon/Home Depot/Lowes, etc. since you know that most of the time if you're not happy, they'll fix it without additional charge.
