Can anyone guess what this is?

I see the cranes by the north hangar, so that looks like the low income apartments. Although it could be the southwest corner of the TIC apts

i hadnt been on barranca in a while (between tustin ranch and red hill) and i saw that they are working on the Armstrong road extension.  That will make my visits to taco bell even faster.

If that is by the District, I was told it's all low income high density housing..... (900 a month rent).

It can't all be low income housing.  Can it??

Sure it can, and sure it is.  I'm in Columbus Square and we've been staring at that construction for the last few months.

Verandas...can't get outta here fast enough...

I should clarify my statement as to WHY we want to get out of here... :)  It really has nothing to do with the apartments.

1 - We live adjacent to Edinger...the road noise has gone up significantly over the last 9 months.  I treated all the exterior-facing walls with soundproofing during construction, but the frequency of road racing, harleys, and loud buses is increasing, especially post 12am.  I'm talking movie-theater grade stuff, and it's still taking its toll.
2 - We now have a child, and considering how things went south with Heritage school, I don't want to stick around to see how things shake up with the proposed middle school and high school.
3 - The senior condos being "converted" to senior apartments by Lennar a few years back has always left a sour taste in my mouth.
4 - An increase in "neighborhood incidents" over the last 6 months is a concern.

That said, our immediate neighbors are amazing people, and we have grown very fond of them.  It will be difficult to leave emotionally, but once I put on my objective hat, it's a pretty clear decision to make.

I'm sure everyone has reasons to love/hate this area, but these are just my 2 cents, for what they're worth.  8)

Gasman, sorry to hear bud!  A few of my friends live in the Verandas.. bought them when they were new.  I think two are in the process of selling their homes and trying to get.  They live on Madison which back Edinger and boy oh boy has the noise gone up.  You can also feel the train!

If you dont mind me asking, what kind of incidents happened at CS?

@gasman:

So are you looking in Irvine?

I've always felt that the CS area near Edinger wasn't ideal because of the proximity to the train tracks, even if they don't whistle, the rumbling is worse because you can hear and *feel* it. And now that Edinger is becoming a main artery between Irvine, Tustin and Santa Ana, you will get that increased traffic noise (esp now that they opened the Tustin Ranch Road overpass).

Being near an access road/freeway is catch-22... good that you can get to places faster, bad because of the traffic and noise.

Like Homie, what kind of incidents are we talking here? I though CS was supposed to be like Irvine-light so crime shouldn't exist. :)

I've heard of a couple of things - a lady and two kids were hit by a car recently. And some old indian guy touched a young girl. He got arrested. I think he lives with his son

Thanks Homer...I'm also an original owner at Verandas...there's been a lot of listing activity of late, but most of them are the smaller floor plans (1 & 2).  And yes, you can feel the trains, especially the freighters between 1am-4am.

As far as incidents, here are a few that I know of:

- Stop signs are invisible here...lots of near misses, and drivers don't even notice strollers.
- An elderly resident has been verbally harassing people for years, and it finally caught up to him.  I think most people just avoided him, and my wife has had a couple run-ins with him over the years.  He picked up a little girl at the park, called her by name, put her on his lap, etc., and the mommy group there freaked out.  Cops did get involved, and he's pretty much been branded around here.
- A nanny was assaulted while walking an infant in a stroller...two guys in an old pickup tried to rough her up but she got away and the cops were called.  This one is particularly disturbing because it happened mid-day, broad daylight.
- Reports of a guy sifting through trash bins the night before pickup.
- Reports of cars "casing" the neighborhood.
- Lots of people get packages lifted off their front porches.  Mail goes missing also.

I'll leave all ethnic references out of this...bottom line is, all signs lead OUT.

Damn skippy I am. :)

Irvine-light...what a joke. haha

Exhibit A: Heritage School.
Exhibit B: Lennar apartments (vs. the originally planned condos)
Exhibit C: 1.9% tax rate for... *crickets*

Again, I've loved living here for the last 6 years...our neighbors are phenomenal, and if I could win the lottery and buy up an entire block, I'd bring them with me wherever I go.  It's just time to go. :(

You should picket Stan Pac's open house with this info.
