2012 - Money's list of America's best small cities

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
California
6. Irvine
27. Cupertino
34. Chino Hills
41. Diamond Bar
42. Yorba Linda

We were in Fishers, IN (#12) and Carmel, IN (#1) a few months ago and those both seemed like nice places.  Carmel was especially neat with its downtown artist's district.  Not quite the same as Carmel by the Sea, CA (and pronounced differently as well).

I like Irvine but Diamond Bar and Chino Hills are pretty overrated IMO

Cupertino is Asian central (as is Diamond Bar) due to Silicon Valley and the high school.  It's okay for a town.

Yorba Linda seems nice every time I pass it on the freeway.

It says the average listing price is $904,753.  Really?
and Test scores math (% above/below average) 36.6%.  Those sound pretty bad.

Predominantly Chinese populated cities?  ???

I've lived in 3 out of the 5 on the California list. Born and raised in Yorba Linda, owned in Chino / Chino Hills, lived and worked in Irvine. I'm surprised Diamond Bar made the list. When I think of a good city to live in, I also look at the surrounding areas. These are areas I may pass through, stop by and get gas in, or do shopping in. Your church, your child's preschool, a doctor or other facility may be in a bordering town. Diamond Bar has Walnut, which has been on a decline, on the west and gets folks from Pomona on the north. At least with Chino Hills, you have a little more upscale Phillips Ranch buffering your connection with Pomona. I actually love Chino Hills. If it were not for the commute, I would prefer living there over Irvine and over Yorba Linda... but not over Foothill Ranch.  ;)

I was talking about this on OCReader but looking at the Money Top 20... which one of those cities has better weather (IMO) than Irvine/Orange County?

Irvine happens to also be the city with the biggest population (200k+) whereas most of those other cities are in the 50-70k range. I think that speaks well for an urban sprawl... to be compared favorable to cities with much lower populations.
