Hi everyone.  I have a 1978 home.  I was worried there would be lead in the paint and asbestos but my real estate agent told me lead in paint was banned in 1978.  My house was built in 1978.  She said there would have been a lead paint disclosure if there were any lead in the house.  So she told me not to worry since my house was built in 1978 (which is the year they stopped lead paint)

I recently noticed in one of the hallway closets, there is popcorn ceiling.  It is really small - about 3 feet by 3 feet.  This is the only popcorn ceiling in the house.  It looks like all the other rooms have been remodeled, scrapped and repainted.  I am worried that popcorn ceiling may contain asbestos.  Do you guys know if the only way is to get it removed and/or tests to be contained?

I'm not really sure what your question is, but why even bother removing the popcorn ceiling? It's in a small area in a hallway closet so no one will ever see it.  If it contains asbestos and you want to remove it, there is a fairly lengthy process that you have to go through to properly get rid of it, which involves testing before and after removal to make sure that there are no fibers left in the air.  Actually there is less health risk to you if you just leave it up.
