Can someone define spike so we don?t have to move the goal posts either direction, later?  Number of cases?  Deaths? Gimme a number!

    Dentist

imagine already being nervous going to the dentist and adding a little claustrophobia to top it off Yeah, if it's the aerosol box, I'd decline if it was an option. Too claustrophobic for me.

I just went for my cleaning at Sean Yu's office. Everybody had a gown, mask, eye protection. They told me they have a patient shield being delivered soon. From their description it sounds like a clear plastic box with arm inserts like they use with NICU babies who need isolation.

    coronavirus

NYC is bad. My optimism went out the window. When you graduate medical students early just to join in, ask for anybody with an expired license to work, ask for CRNAs to work unsupervised, it's just a free for all. Density is killing NYC.

Got this from a local colleague. Snipped this data for age ranges 31-40, 41-50, 51-60. Blue is inpatient. Orange is outpatient. This is civilian data so likely a greater percentage of the unhealthy patients. Still, the virus is not sparing younger folks.

Wisdom of crowd experiment - COVID-19 death cases

Most everybody is going to get this virus. Some small percent are going to die from ARDS/myocarditis regardless of treatment. We need to avoid unnecessary deaths like Italy's situation aka "Rock, Papers, Scissors" vent selection which means pacing the infection rate aka flattening the curve...

Wisdom of crowd experiment - COVID-19 death cases

Totally agree. But I'm still asking the same question: what number of deaths changes your mind?  I like Germany's idea:https://www.yahoo.com/news/germany-could-issue-hundreds-thousands-114500027.html

Wisdom of crowd experiment - COVID-19 death cases

So what's the magic number that justifies a shutdown?  20k?  100k?  1 million dead? I'm all for getting people back to work and restarting the economy but you know it comes with additional deaths. What number of deaths justifies that? I see several people continuing to push for lifting of...

Wisdom of crowd experiment - COVID-19 death cases

Going with 10k-20k range.  Call me an optimist.  Doesn't matter, if we get lower numbers than predicted, some people will claim "I told you it's just the flu!" and the others will say "It's because we shutdown!" Would be helpful if we had a rapid reliable IgM/IgG test so that exposed people...

US daily deaths hit 402 today, up from 268 yesterday. I think we?re going to approach Italy/Spain?s rates from the numbers coming out of Louisiana, Michigan, and Philly.

    coronavirus

NY is hurting. Colleague sent me a photo of Commisioner Zuckers letter offering to immediately recertify any healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, NPs, PAs, respiratory therapists, EMTs, etc) with expired licenses.  I'm sure they're hoping for the recently retired but not sure if they're...

Seeing the #'s out of Italy and Spain, I'd rather quarantine now instead of later.  They're using an ice rink as a morgue. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52014023
