Think it really depends on lifestyle.  With a little kid having lots of park options and pools is fantastic, that is definitely a 'must have' for me and a lot of families.  I have some friends without kids who never use community pools or whatnot so they probably wouldn't even notice.

I didn't end up getting a new development, but Highlands was the only one I seriously considered, even better if you got a decent lot.  I really think this is the hidden gem of Irvine right now.

I think Martin means you invest all the cash but *not* trade on margin, then if you need cash you withdraw while trading on margin, that shouldn't cost 8% right?

100% with you.  It's a nice neighborhood in a vacuum but it's not in a vacuum it's on Irvine Blvd by a very old mobile home park.  I'd pick the houses further south in Portola Springs over Eastwood. 

holy SHIT, with landscaping and upgrades you're talking a 1.8M house (or more!).  I get that Irvine is desirable, but definitely look at what you can get for 1.8 in Tustin Ranch or Foothill Ranch/Baker Ranch.  Geez. 

You guys can't be serious about EastWood village or as I like to call it Trailer Park Neighbor village.  Driving down Irvine Blvd is so weird with Fancy Eastwood Village on one side and then the uh, less nice neighborhood right on the other side...

I think it's way better to buy an existing Toll Brothers house in Baker Ranch.  Inventory is becoming more plentiful and you don't have to worry about all the extra crap like landscaping and upgrades.  Remember, Toll Brothers isn't Lennar, if you see a model you like, add 200k to the sticker...

I already have a pipe (is that what you mean by 'Trench the line') that runs power throughout my yard, I just don't have any outlet access anywhere.  All along where my plants are on the perimeter are wired lights, but no way for me to plug in something else.

The Greak Parks and Altair aren't near the freeway at all either, arguably even more inconvenient to get to the freeway from Altair.  In off hours it takes me about 8 minutes to get to the 5/405 interchange from Baker Ranch if I take Alton.
