Considering the SE was around $400-$430 and the 16E is $600, Apple has not only killed off the smaller form factor iPhone & iPhone Mini but also gave the bottom product +50% price hike.
 
the $600 price point for the budget line is hard to swallow. it may be much 'better' than the $430 SE, but there is a large segment of the customers who do not have sophisticated needs but want to remain in the apple ecosystem. I guess apple decided they are willing to ditch the cheapskates.
