This is what it is like living here. Not only does Mr. HOA monitor residents 24/7 with his 80+ cameras he had installed in the community, he walks around taking pictures of your house, cars, and Ring cameras - Mr. HOA's creepy tendencies is the reason we have cameras. He used to regularly lurk on our "problem street" and scurry away, but now he is overtly stalking when he knows we are home. We feel this is harassment and it just keeps escalating and escalating. Mr. HOA takes a moment to actually smirk at the camera. I don't feel safe in my own neighborhood, not because of any real crime, but because of our HOA. (PM me for the full video as cannot seem to attach here.)
It would be a good idea to blast your Ring camera sirens at this guy next time you see him in front of your house! 🤣

Have you guys considered suing the HOA management and the board for all this harassment, stalking and the violation of the right of privacy?

You guys could likely get a restraining order as well as no one is above the law and this is not a communist country.

I agree. This can't just be a situation where you say "Oh well, nothing I can do!". There has to some sort of action you can take.

Of course and several have but Mr HOA has "unlimited funds to fight you" and he has nothing better to do either.

Well unfortunately the vast majority of people in the neighborhood don't take any action and why Mr HOA is allowed to carry on. It's a combination of fear of retaliation and expecting someone else to do something.

I’m so happy people are finally reading this and also posting about it on Reddit. I also follow an Instagram called #northwoodestatesirvine there is a years long account of what’s been happening in that neighborhood and how everything Mr. HOA is accusing people of doing is actually what he is doing. And the HOA board allows this to go unchecked.

Now we have several lawsuits against the HOA. Probably not a good thing if you are trying to buy, sell or refinance. So we are stuck here watching our home values tank.

Suits against the HOA or those between neighbors are often not considered an issue when financing.

If it's the HOA suing the builder, that's another story and you are for the most part screwed if you are financing/refinancing a home.

If the suit is between homeowners and the HOA about special assessments, insurance, or reserves, that's a gray area.

Our neighborhood will always have an HOA because we have a pool and clubhouse to maintain. But it doesn’t make me wonder if as a neighborhood we could decide no HOA and hire a management company to run things. I know in some cases of HOA corruption a judge can insert a receiver until everything is straightened out and a new board can be voted in in a HONEST ELECTION.

This is still a de facto HOA :)

You are essentially just scaling down what the HOA does.

True, but honestly our HOA is a mess. I’m sure it will end up on local news at some point. We have lawsuits, cameras everywhere, board members that quit so they could become paid vendors, normal neighborhood things like slurry coat are neglected…tons of money spent that was never in the budget for gate arms, mag lock gates, tons of cameras, spike strips (work done with no city permits so we are on notice with the city as well)….i could go on and on. There’s a documentary crew interviewing people, that’s how bad it has gotten.

@Imnotmoving

Curious out of "X" number of homes in your HOA how many do you feel are rentals and/or absentee owners (AKA FCB's who do neither rent out nor occupy the property) ? It's likely that these owners have not taken the time to vote or care really about what's going on. If it's 20 out of 200, you may want to do some heavy research and reach out to these owners to confirm how they might vote and why. Sure, some will not care, but if you get enough of them to give a shiat and be willing to vote this HOA management out, you may have the winning edge in any future elections.
