Sale of Irvine family home, and a great example of Prop 13

If any of you are familiar with Corona Del Mar you have probably seen the large blue house on the bluffs above Bayside Drive and the large blue structure on the water below it. These two pieces of property are owned by the Irvine family and they have been in the family for 140 years. I went to a Christmas boat parade party at the structure on the water once - it has a large indoor pool and a boat dock and a huge open unused lot next to it. Everything is very dated, but amazingly cool nonetheless - the upper property is almost 2.4 acres.

Anyway, the Irvine family has just put the house on the bluffs up for sale for a mere $38 million. The agent is, of course, John McMonigle. The pool house is NOT part of the sale. http://www.redfin.com/CA/Corona-Del-Mar/401-Avocado-Ave-92625/home/3253016 (By the way, someone please let me know how to imbed a link in to these forum comments!)

The funniest part of this is the property tax records - according to Redfin the property tax base is only $633,000 and the total amount of tax paid by the Irvine family in 2009 was $6,664! Wow.
