Regarding Nathan?s Famous Hotdogs?

Just what is the proper way to cook a Nathan?s hotdog? I visited Nathan?s Website looking for recommended ways to heat the buggers, but I only found specialty recipes that focused on regional bun preps; i.e. New York, Chile/Cheese, Chicago, etc. Alas, no specific dog cooking instructions.

A little background, we are not new to hotdogs. Oscar Meyer Wieners were a big part of our diet in college. We split them in half and pan-fried them, sliced them into Mac-n-Cheese and Ramen Noodles, grilled them on the cheap $7 Hibachi, diced them into scrambled eggs, added them to Jambalaya, and sometimes just munched a few right out of the package with crackers.

Even today when I grill for my wife and I, we always throw a five pack on the grill as an appetizer. There is a special way we season them. It would almost seem sacrilege to not have two and a half blackened and charred Oscar Meyer Wieners (no buns, just the dogs) before the main coarse is cooked. Weird the little habits one develops.

Well today is much different than when we were in college. We can eat as much of whatever we want. A week or so ago I recalled the news covering the famous hotdog eating contest where the reigning Japanese champion was finally out-eaten. I noticed that the dogs were Nathan?s hotdogs, so I thought these dogs must be better than our old college standby. I bought a package today and I was wondering how to best cook them this weekend.

Any ideas?

Kobayashi lost! NOOOOO! The apocolypse is upon us! AHHHHHHH!

OT: I like to heat them in a toaster oven. I'm not into charcoal. Boiling is okay too. Steam is the best, especially for the buns.

Nathan's are my favorite. We make Ruebens out of em. Split em in Half, put them on the frying pan side by side, toast some rye bread, mayo and some hot saurkraut. I know people either hate or love the saurkraut though...but this is the best sandwhich. For a little twist you can even put a little bit of thousand island dressing on.

You know, I've tried Pink's before but it wasn't so great. I will definitely give it another try though since the ones I tried had spent an hour in the car because of traffic.

OK, I?m thinking we?ll grill four of them and steam the other four. I?m planning on the ketchup/chili/onion/cheese in a bun route. Sorry kawakonohirukun, sauerkraut isn?t going to work for us. :) We?ll see how it goes.

My wife spends the week working in Huntington Beach, and I usually have the option of planning meals for us upon her return on the weekend. This will be different.

I love Pink. I would eat so much there even If had to take Antacid pills to take care of my burping later.

Troop,

Do you have to wait in line just like everyone else? or your uniform allowed you to cut in front of the line because time is of the essence in saving life ? Oops! I forgot to state which uniform since you have 2 careers that both save life and soul.

From what I understand, we can go around to the back door and pay there. No way do we have time to wait in that line !

I've never had a Pink's and probably won't go when I'm in uniform. So far, peeps here on IHB don't seem to think they are much better than:

Hey Troop, I hope businesses give police officers and firemen/women discounts. In highschool I worked at a drycleaners and we used to dryclean uniforms for free.
